In most cases, the process of buying BTC using Apple Pay is still the same : you must first have an account, check the Know Your Customer (KYC) identification procedures and select “Apple Pay” when choosing the payment method.
Eventually, Apple Pay is simply an alternative to credit card payments. The associated fees will therefore be the same as for this method, a little more important than a deposit of funds by bank transfer, and depend on the platform.

Buy Bitcoin with Apple Pay on non-custodial wallets
Note that it is also possible to buy bitcoins with Apple Pay directly on certain non-custodial wallets. Digital wallets such as MetaMask or Exodus and physical wallets from Ledger support this payment method.
For information, a non-custodial wallet is also called self-hosted. This means that the user is responsible for managing its own cryptocurrencies and private key which provides access to the storage tool.
Take the example of MetaMask. When you click on the “Buy” button in your browser extension, you have the option to buy cryptocurrencies with one of the wallet partners (Coinbase Pay, MoonPay or Transak). In the payment options, you can select “Apple Pay” to complete your purchase.
The advantage of MetaMask is that no personal information is requested to hold an account. Nevertheless, the partners mentioned above are subject to KYC requirements and will therefore ask you to provide identity documents.
Note that MetaMask supports more than ten blockchains, including Ethereum, but will not allow you to buy Bitcoin. However, you will be able to buy Ether (ETH) and later exchange it for BTC on decentralized exchanges. This does not apply to Ledger, whose wallets support Bitcoin.
