Apple Pay is one of the largest payment services in the world. Most Apple fans rely on the service to pay large and small amounts. But there is currently a technical problem that is leaving users frustrated.
Apple Pay debits unauthorized amounts from accounts
Several Apple Pay users in Hungary are currently experiencing a horror scenario that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy: several unauthorized debits are being made via the payment service, even though nothing was purchased.
Some users even report multiple debits from their account, which are carried out consecutively within a few minutes, as the Hungarian portal Telex reports. The volume of the amounts seems to vary. Why this is the case has not yet been clarified at this point in time (as of June 28, 2024).
Banks react
The cause of this problem remains unclear. Apple remains tight-lipped and has not yet made an official statement. However, two banks have already communicated that this is a technical error that is the responsibility of the US technology company.
“We inform our customers that due to a technical problem with an external partner, the bank cards of some of our customers may have been incorrectly charged by Apple. Our colleagues have already contacted Apple and the problem is being resolved. Thank you for your patience,” writes the Hungarian branch of Raiffeisen Bank.
Telex also reports that most of the payments appear to be related to transactions that have already taken place. Even subscriptions that were already canceled through Apple still seem to be debited despite the cancellation.
