Dhe FC Bayern Munich has suspended its striker Sadio Mané for the Bundesliga home game against Hoffenheim this Saturday (3.30 p.m., in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and on Sky). The reason: “Mané’s misconduct after the Champions League game (…) at Manchester City”. It says so in a very short message that the club communicated on its internet channels on Thursday. In addition, a fine was imposed on Mané.
In its statement, FC Bayern does not go into the alleged details of the misconduct that had been made public in several media reports the evening before. Mané is said to have hit his teammate Leroy Sané in the face in Manchester.
The dispute, which escalated there in the team cabin with the blow, is said to have arisen in the game when Sané spoke to Mané about a voting error. This has been documented by several pictures. What exactly Sané said to Mané and what might have upset him is unclear.
Behind expectations
It’s not the first time that Mané, who has been playing for FC Bayern since this season, has caused concern. The “Sportbild” reported that Mané after the second Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain in March because of a lack of time with the then coach Julian Nagelsmann. This coincides with FAZ information.
From a sporting point of view, Sadio Mané, 31, is not the difference player in his first few months in Munich that he was in Liverpool for a long time. As such, however, he was presented and remunerated by the board members Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidžić (contract until June 30, 2025).
In Munich, Mané, who was injured in November, missed the World Cup and has only been back for six weeks, has scored 11 goals in 32 games this season. But he was not in the starting XI in the most important games, both under coach Nagelsmann and under coach Thomas Tuchel.
