After that, the United States government accused WikiLeaks and Julian Assange of violating the law and endangering people's lives and safety. After taking refuge for several years in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, Julian was finally arrested by the authorities in 2019, risking up to 175 years in prison.

According to court filings, Assange reportedly agreed with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to plead guilty to conspiracy to obtain and disseminate classified information related to U.S. national defense.
