Liberland was created just over 9 years ago, on April 13, 2015, by Czech politician Vít Jedlička. This self-proclaimed sovereign European micronation recognized by no member country of the United Nations (UN) operates an area of approximately 7 km² located between the borders of Croatia and Serbia, on the west bank of the Danube.
Between Croatia and Serbia lies the free republic of Liberland.
This territory which emerged after the dissolution of Yugoslavia, is not claimed by either Croatia or Serbia. This is why Vít Jedlička decided to establish his own state there whose economy is based on blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
Last October 5, elections were held in Liberland in order to appoint a new president for the country's Congress. Spokespersons for the micronation explained how they took place:
The electoral process, governed by a set of simple rules, was entirely algorithmic, which allowed for complete transparency. This system has the unique ability to eliminate any doubt about the election resultsa challenge faced by many countries that still rely on traditional methods.

I want to actively promote the idea of limited government, not only in Liberland, but also as a model for the world. […] There are no forced obligations, no taxes, no mandates imposed on its citizens.
