The Phoenix television station made a mistake on the audio track during the broadcast of the Trump swearing-in broadcast. A simultaneous translator was reproducing a speech Trump gave to supporters after his swearing-in when the words were suddenly heard: “Tell me, how long do you want to stay with this shit?” After a short break, the translation continued.
The public broadcaster explained the situation in response to a dpa request: “Due to a technical glitch, the communication between the interpreter and the director was audible today. Of course it does not reflect the opinion of the broadcaster.”
The broadcaster usually works with experienced freelance interpreters at major international events, as was the case in this case. “The colleagues have to work for hours at a very high level of concentration and translate simultaneously. “This usually happens without any errors, despite the great pressure,” it continued.
