Before the upcoming vote on the so-called influx limitation law, Bundag President Bärbel Bas (SPD) asked Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz to compromise. “I understand when after such terrible assassination as recently in Magdeburg and Aschaffenburg, MPs feel in the duty to present quick solutions,” she told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. However, this should not lead to “also in election campaign times” to ignore the paths of compromise finding in parliament.
On Wednesday, the Bundestag had voted on a union application with votes from Union, AfD and FDP, which provides rejections from asylum seekers at the German borders. In the case of SPD, the Greens and the left, the outrage had triggered.
On Friday, the Union wants to put its draft for the so -called influx limitation law on the vote, also reject the SPD and Greens and which could therefore only get a majority with the help of FDP, AfD and BSW. The core of the design is the suspension of family reunification to refugees with limited protection status.
BAS said that challenges could only be overcome if the democratic center always deals with each other in such a way that stable and reliable coalitions remain possible even after a tough election campaign.
