Lovepreet Singh is an Indian weightlifter who won a bronze medal in the 109 weight category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (Birmingham) creating a national record of 192 kg in clean and jerk.

Lovepreet Singh was born on Saturday, 6 September 1997 (age 25 years; as of 2022) in Bal Sachander, Amritsar, Punjab. His zodiac sign is Virgo. He pursued his primary schooling at a government school in Rajasansi, Amritsar. At the age of 13, Lovepreet Singh first developed an interest in weightlifting watching former weightlifters Heera Singh and Rupinder Singh, natives of his hometown, who later trained Lovepreet. While Heera Singh is a weightlifting coach, Rupinder Singh is in CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). He grew up in a humble household watching his father sewing garments in his store outside their two-room village residence and his grandfather selling vegetables. Hence, when Lovepreet made up his mind to pursue a career in weightlifting, lack of money was the biggest obstacle which stood in his path. At that time, their grandfather and uncles provided Lovepreet with the financial aid required to continue with his weightlifting training. Later, he enrolled in D.A.V. Senior Secondary School, Amritsar, from where he passed class 12. He actively participated and won medals in weightlifting competitions during his school days. He was inducted into the national camp in Patiala, where trained under coach Vijay Sharma, after seven years of hard work and determination.

Career
During his school days, Lovepreet started working with wholesale vegetable vendors in Amritsar mandi (vegetable market) to sustain his weightlifting dream and supplement his father’s scanty income. He used to reach mandi by 4 am, rush back home by 6 am, get ready, and immediately leave for training. In an interview, his father recalled Lovepreet’s struggles and said,
My income was not enough and he knew that. So, he started working part time at Amritsar vegetable mandi. He used to earn around Rs 300 per day which he used to spend on his diet and other requirements.”
Furthermore, Lovepreet also worked as a “Ghodiwala” at weddings, where his job was to chauffeur around the groom’s mare.
In 2015, he secured a job in the Indian Navy. While talking about Lovepreet’s job in an interview in 2022, his brother, Harpreet said,
He appeared in the Indian Navy trials and got selected. He has been working as Havildar there for more than five years now. That helped him and us a lot.”
As a member of the Chandigarh Amateur Weightlifting Association, he started competing in weightlifting competitions in 2017.
