Standard Chartered bank has announced that it has obtained a digital asset custody license in Luxembourg. This operation paves the way towards compliance with the MiCA regulation with a view to expanding its services in Europe.
Standard Chartered obtains a license in Luxembourg
On several occasions in recent years, the British bank Standard Chartered has asserted its crypto-friendly position by presenting particularly optimistic forecasts for cryptocurrency prices. This week, the company renewed its attraction to the ecosystem, by formalizing the obtaining of a license in Luxembourg.
This news comes in the wake of the MiCA regulation, and could therefore serve as a springboard towards obtaining the status of Crypto-Asset Service Provider (PSCA). So, Standard Chartered says it is now able to offer digital asset custody services in Europe thanks to this new license, as Margaret Harwood-Jones, the bank's global head of financing and securities services, explains:
We are delighted to be able to offer our digital asset custody services in the EU region, allowing us to support our clients with a product that changes the landscape of traditional finance, while providing the level of security that comes with being an appropriately regulated entity. We are extremely proud to be paving the way for our institutional clients to access the digital asset ecosystem.
On this occasion, a local division was created, at the head of which Laurent Marochini, from Société Générale, was appointed CEO.
Last September, Standard Chartered also launched a digital asset custody service in the United Arab Emirates, another jurisdiction also popular in the blockchain ecosystem.
