Dhe North Germans have been getting their post too late in some places for a few weeks. There have recently been cases of delayed delivery in regions in Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.
“The wave of corona infections is not leaving Deutsche Post untouched either. Unexpectedly for this time of year, we are recording many cases of illness throughout the north,” admitted a spokesman.
Irregularities have recently occurred in individual areas of the north. Problems therefore occurred selectively, mostly when there were unforeseeably high levels of sick leave. In principle, however, the post office delivers nationwide in northern Germany.
Swiss Post apologizes to its customers whose consignments could not be delivered as quickly as usual. The company is looking for employees, especially in delivery, and advertises with fixed working hours, collective wages and social security.
Number of complaints increased
Because letters arrive late or not at all, more and more disgruntled citizens are turning to the Federal Network Agency. In September, almost 5,000 postal complaints were received, the Bonn authority said. There were thus a total of around 11,500 in the third quarter.
The number is unusually high, as a comparison with earlier, longer periods shows: In the first half of the year there were around 8,900 complaints and in the whole of the previous year 15,100. The vast majority of complaints this summer were about letters and only rarely about parcels.
