Meta, Amazon & Co.: Belts are being tightened in Silicon Valley. Why is that and what follows.
VFrom the Facebook parent company Meta to Amazon, Alphabet and the short message service Twitter, important American Internet companies have announced that they will lay off employees. Because at the moment, the corporations that are spoiled by success are actually struggling with difficulties that are unusual for them.
The weaker economy and the weaker advertising business are one thing. Another factor is the assumed and perhaps overestimated consequences of the pandemic, according to which many more people will continue to shop online in the future or conferences will be purely digital. Finally, at Meta there is also the fact that company founder and boss Mark Zuckerberg is realigning the group and wants to build a supporting pillar of business around the so-called Metaverse.
