Unprecedented: the giant Microsoft has announced a massive outage, which affects many sectors. As a result, large areas of activity are affected, such as the banking sector, transport, information services as well as emergency services. Airports, banks, businesses… Microsoft’s outage is widespread
Microsoft's giant outage is underway, and more and more major companies are saying they have to pause their services. This morning, KLM airline announced that it would have to cancel most of its flights, and Major airports such as Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Berlin have been paralysed. Numerous images have shown airport screens affected by a “blue screen of death”, that is, an error message that occurs when starting a Windows computer.
Moreover, Major banks reported offline payment systemssuch as the National Australia Bank. In some stores in Australia, customers were unable to make purchases. On the stock market side, some global marketplaces were affected, such as the London Stock Exchange, which suspended its services.

The outage affected the entire globe, with reports of incidents in the Americas, Asia and Europe.. Around 10:30 this morning, however, Berlin Airport announced that it had started operating again, as did Sky News in the UK. In France, the airline Air France announced few local disruptions, except in “some stopovers ».
Other emergency services have been affected, like the US emergency number “911”, which became unreachableIn Israel and France, some hospital services have also been affected. Journalists from TF1, CNews and RTL have also reported major problems.

Crowdstrike software outage
The outage saw many users greeted with a blue screen when booting up their computers this morning. Microsoft made a brief announcement this morning:
“We are investigating an issue affecting users' ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services.»

The culprit appears to be Crowdstrike software, which is an antivirus aimed at professionals.. This is why the outage affected mostly corporate computer systems, but few individuals. During the morning, Microsoft said it was giving the highest priority to resolving this problem:
“Our services are being improved as we continue to take mitigation measures.”

How to restart your computer affected by the Microsoft outage?
If a computer is affected by the “blue screen of death”, Crowdstrike reported manipulation to revive it. Here are the steps to follow :
- Start Windows in Safe Mode (usually by pressing the F4 key at startup)
- Access the disk where the operating system is located (usually C 🙂
- Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike
- Once in this folder, you must delete the file that begins with C-00000291 and ends with .sys
- Restart the computer, which should work again

Crowdstrike has not yet made an official announcement regarding the outage. The British government has also stated that it does not consider this to be a cyber attack.. The services appear to be gradually being restarted at the time of writing, in what is the largest outage known to Microsoft.
