The short video portal TikTok has signed a licensing agreement with the Society for the Administration of Event Organizer Rights (GWVR) and will in future pay for recordings of events.
The short video portal TikTok will in future pay for recordings of events. This agreement was announced by the Society for the Enforcement of Event Organizers' Rights (GWVR). Accordingly, the social media portal and the interest group were able to agree on a licensing agreement.
Flat rate only for members of the GWVR
The payments are to apply exclusively to events organized by GWVR members, which include concerts and similar events. “We have agreed on lump sum payments from TikTok in order to protect the rights of our members,” said Johannes Ulbricht, managing director of GWVR, when asked by the German Press Agency. However, an exact amount is not known.
The GWVR was founded to enable event organizers to share in the revenue generated from concert recordings. The GWVR's headquarters are in Hamburg and it is a subsidiary of the Federal Association of the Concert and Event Industry. This association claims to represent around 500 agencies, tour, festival and concert event companies.
