A functioning air conditioning system in the car is almost irreplaceable, especially in hot summer. But what if it suddenly stops blowing cold air into the vehicle? There are three possible causes for this, which we will explain in more detail in our article.
Defective air conditioning in the car: These are the three most common causes
First of all: Our list is just a selection of possible problems. There are a number of other factors that can cause your car air conditioning to only spit out warm air or, in the worst case, not work at all. However, there are three causes that are very common.
The first is so obvious that many people may not even consider it.
Too little coolant
The coolant or refrigerant is located directly in the air conditioning system and ensures that it can function effectively by evaporating. But of course it has to be refilled at regular intervals. Merkur.de says that it takes about two to three years before the coolant normally runs out.
This is usually done in a workshop, either as part of an inspection or specifically on request. If this hasn't been done for a while, the fluid can disappear completely. The result: the air conditioning in the car can no longer cool properly.
Damaged capacitor
Cause number two, which is encountered again and again, is a defective condenser. This is normally responsible for liquefying the hot refrigerant. If this does not happen or only happens insufficiently, the car air conditioning system will also have problems reducing the temperature of the air.
The capacitor is usually located directly behind the radiator grille and is therefore susceptible to damage from stones or other flying objects. If the device is defective, for example because a hole has been punched in it, the only solution is to visit your garage.
Defective compressor
Finally, a broken compressor could also prevent you from driving around with cool air in your vehicle. A compressor compresses the coolant before passing it on to the condenser. If this doesn't happen, the cycle cannot take place as usual and the hot air simply stays hot.
Especially if your car's air conditioning is not used regularly, a compressor can wear out because it has many moving parts that need to be moved. In most cases, the only solution is to drive to the car repair shop of your choice to have it replaced.
