Munich Re Canada president and CEO Klaus Wilkens will join Insurance Bureau of Canada’s board of directors, the association announced Wednesday.
Wilkens was appointed president and CEO of Munich Reinsurance Company of Canada and Temple Insurance in April 2024. He’s been with the company for nearly 30 years, since he first joined as a casualty facultative underwriter at the company’s headquarters in 1995.
He moved to Munich Re’s Africa operations as a specialist liability underwriter in 2000. He then returned to Europe in 2002 as Munich Re’s senior underwriter of retrospective reinsurance, becoming a client management executive in 2008. He was at Munich Re in Europe for 18 years, before coming to Canada.
“Mr. Wilkens is an internationally experienced leader with decades of experience in leadership as well as in underwriting and client management,” the IBC release reads. “Throughout the course of his career, he has developed an impressive track record of building strong, sustainable relationships with clients and brokers.”
Upon joining the board, Wilkens said in a LinkedIn post, he is eager to contribute to the development of the Canadian insurance industry.
“…I look forward to joining my fellow Board directors in tackling some of Canada’s biggest challenges – from mitigating the effects of climate change to advancing innovative solutions that better protect our customers from risk,” he said in a statement.
