DThe group “Last Generation” became the target of a nationwide raid on Tuesday morning. The searches are related to investigations by the Neuruppin public prosecutor’s office against eleven members of the group. A corresponding report by the newspaper “Tagesspiegel” citing a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office was confirmed to the FAZ. It is about the formation and support of a criminal organization.
The group itself confirmed the house searches on Tuesday. From five o’clock in the morning, eleven house searches were carried out on members of the “Last Generation”. Electronic devices such as laptops and smartphones as well as posters were confiscated, the group said on Twitter.
The spokeswoman for the alliance, Lilly Schubert, told the news portal T-Online: “We assume that this is an attempt at intimidation.” However, this will not mean that the group will stop its actions.
According to the public prosecutor’s office in Neuruppin, the investigation is about a protest action in April this year at the Brandenburg oil refinery PCV Schwedt. There, several “Last Generation” activists had chained themselves to a pipeline. They are also said to have closed supply lines to the refinery network with sliders. Because of the import stop for Russian oil, which will also apply to pipelines in Germany from January 1, the federal government is currently looking for new sources of supply for the refinery. Firm commitments were missing until the end.
The action in Schwedt was just one of many of the “last generation” this year. The activists, who advocate radical climate change, also tried to attract attention by blocking motorway access ramps, damaging works of art in museums or disrupting airports.
