It works quickly and saves energy: at least that’s what Apple promises from the new M2 processor. The company presented the chip at the developer fair (World Wide Developers Conference, WWDC 2022 for short). What the M2 chip should bring
According to Apple, the M2 has a higher speed and higher energy efficiency than the M1 chip. This should be noticeable when multitasking or working in several apps at the same time. The M2 chip also ends up in the new MacBook Air M2. You can read more about the Apple M2 in a separate article.
Comparison with the MacBook Pro M1
The technical data of the MacBook M2 hardly differ from the M1 version. The internal memory remains as usual at either 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 terabyte (TB) or 2 TB. What is new, however, is that Apple is offering the MacBookPro M2 with up to 24 gigabytes (GB) of RAM, while the M1 model is limited to 8 or 16 GB. Apple claims to have improved the processing and streaming of videos in the M2 version with a new “Media Engine”. The M2 version supports 3D audio playback with AirPods (3rd generation, Pro and Max).
MacBook Pro M2: price and availability
According to the manufacturer, the Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch with M2 chip will be available from July 2022. It starts at 1,599 euros. This means that the M2 version remains as expensive as the MacBook Pro M1 that Apple has been selling so far. The MacBook Air M2 (2022) costs from 1,499 euros.
