Nvidia needs even more affordable options to market, and they haven’t made less sophisticated chips yet. Therefore, we decided to release the RTX 3060 Ti model, based on the same GA104 chip, but even more reduced the number of execution units.
The RTX 3060 Ti is designed for 1440p and 1080p gaming and will be considered a mid-high price point. AnAndTech notes that the 3060 Ti is 20% slower than the RTX 3070. So the company has made the 3060 Ti somewhat of an “in-between” graphics card that is not enough for a no-compromise solution to play at 1440p, but will perform great in games at 1080p.
Despite sharing the same graphics chips as the RTX 3070, the 3060 Ti’s features are somewhat stripped down. So, the chip is equipped with only 38 streaming multiprocessors instead of 48, which in total gives 152 texture mapping units and 4864 FP32-compatible CUDA cores (against 3072 in 2080 SUPER). At the same time, the number of rasterization units was reduced from 96 to 80 due to the fact that they are no longer associated with memory controllers in the Ampere architecture, while the VRAM configuration has not changed. The amount of local memory of the card is still 8 GB. The 3060 Ti chip is made using an 8-nm process technology, which made it possible to increase the number of transistors to 17.4 billion – in 2080 SUPER there were 13.6 billion of them.
In games, the advantage of the 3060 Ti is even more noticeable: in Minecraft at 4K graphics settings, the video card provided 26 frames per second in the Imagination Island location, while the 2080 SUPER at the same settings produced 19.4 frames per second. The RTX 3060 Ti has no competitors on the market right now, except for the previous generation models, which are clearly not worth buying, since Ampere has its own advantages, including high performance in ray tracing and new technologies (take the same HDMI 2.1). Yes, and the competitor, AMD, has nothing on the market yet. Although they have released new solutions for higher price segments, below they only have a pair of Radeon RX 5700 (XT) which are clearly lower-end solutions.
Software technologies
First, let’s talk about the new overclocking features. As if in response to the Rage Mode auto-overclocking mode, which appeared in the competitor’s top solutions, Nvidia rolled out its analogue, the development of which has been going on for a long time, it just did not appear in the driver settings and the GeForce Experience utility. This is a typical simple automatic overclocking system that allows you to slightly increase system performance in games and other applications that are limited precisely by the capabilities of the GPU.
Together with the Ampere architecture, Nvidia introduced Reflex technology, which is designed to minimize latency when playing eSports games. A new set of technologies that optimize and measure system latency is designed to improve the PC’s response to player actions. Built into 11 popular esports games like Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, Destiny 2, Fortnite and Valorant, Reflex Low-Latency technology dramatically reduces latency.

What about mining? How much 3060 ti hashrate is lower than its older sister 3070? Let’s look at the table and see – yes, not at all!

So is it worth overpaying for 3070? Or is it better to stick with the 3060ti and save a couple of bucks? Vote for 3060ti.
