Longstanding Ontario brokerage Sutherland Insurance has joined the Canadian Broker Network (CBN) as its latest member, CBN announced earlier this week.
“Joining CBN will provide improved carrier relationships, and industry-leading best practices, enabling us to better serve our clients and expand our reach,” Sutherland Insurance president Zac Sutherland says in a Jan. 14 press release.
“By leveraging the network’s collaborative resources and operational support, we aim to streamline workflows, win key accounts, and position ourselves as a stronger, more innovative player in the Ontario market and beyond,” Sutherland says. “Further to that, the tech stack and data analysis contributions we can share will only make us all stronger.”
Guelph, Ont.-based Sutherland Insurance has been a brokerage since 1870, providing auto, property, business and life insurance across Ontario. In particular, it offers home, auto, collector car, condo, tenants, seasonal property, boat, travel, umbrella liability, cyber, CGL, D&O, E&O and fleet insurance, among others.
CBN president Lorie Phair says the network of independent insurance brokerages is excited to welcome Sutherland Insurance to its expanding CBN community. As a new network member, the brokerage continues to operate independently and serve their local community but gains collective wisdom from the network.
CBN represents more than 30 member firms, with $3.5 billion in property and casualty premiums, employee benefits, and life and financial services. The network has more than 100 offices across Canada, with more than 4,000 employees.
Last April, CBN welcomed two members from Ontario: Sterling Insurance Brokers and Waddell Insurance.
Oakville, Ont.-based Sterling Insurance offers personal insurance (including home, auto, personal umbrella, high-net-worth and recreational vehicles) and commercial insurance (including CGL, legal expense, builder’s risk, D&O, E&O, and surety and bonds, among others).
“CBN serves as a multifaceted resource — a business coach, an incubator, a tech hub, and a professional network all rolled into one,” Sterling Insurance’s chief operating officer, Farah Hameed, said in April 2024.
Waddell Insurance also joined CBN at the time. It offers personal, commercial, and life and group insurance, including, among others, home, auto, jewellery/fine arts, yachts and watercraft, commercial auto, business interruption, environmental, crime, transportation and insurance for specialized industries.
