Retailer confirmed: Hacker attack on Metro: checkout systems in many places still with problems
Metro has since confirmed that it was the victim of a hacker attack over the weekend. As a result, failures in the IT infrastructure can also lead to malfunctions in the cash register systems.
After initially “neither to confirm nor deny” it, the wholesaler Metro now informs about a hacker attack on its website. This means that there may be failures in the IT infrastructure for several services.
During operations in the stores, disruptions and delays can therefore occur – including at the checkouts. The IT problems after the attack can also mean that the prices on the electronic price displays “are not always up to date”, according to the retailer.
Metro has already set up offline systems for payments
According to Metro, in order to bridge the problems at checkouts and the like, the teams in the stores have already set up offline systems to process the payments. Nevertheless, there may be individual delays both in stores and when ordering via the online store or the web app.
As the wholesaler writes, they are already working “at full speed” with external IT experts on a solution and are asking for the customers’ understanding until then.
