A red racing car by Michael Schumacher has changed hands in Switzerland. The buyer paid a total of 14.6 million francs for the Formula One car.
Ein Ferrari by racing legend Michael Schumacher has been auctioned in Switzerland for a record sum. According to the Sotheby’s auction house, the red car changed hands in Geneva on Wednesday for CHF 13 million (almost EUR 13.2 million). There were also taxes and fees, so that the final price was CHF 14.6 million.
The F2003-GA with chassis number 229 was bought by a telephone bidder. The price he paid was well above expectations: Sotheby’s had previously estimated the value of the racing car, with which Schumacher became world champion in 2003, at between 7.5 and 9.5 million francs.
The previous record revenue for a Formula One car was also achieved for a car driven by the German record world champion Schumacher: This changed hands in 2017 for 6.35 million euros.
