Shashank Shirish Ketkar was born on Sunday, 15 September 1985 (age 37 years; as of 2022) in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Once, in a media conversation, Shashank disclosed that he was born and brought up in a middle-class family. His family wished Shashank to be a highly qualified person.
Soon after completing his school education, Shashank Ketkar travelled to Australia from India to complete an engineering degree. He attained his graduate degree in engineering in Sydney, Australia, where he was also associated with the swimming school of an Olympic gold medalist, Ian Thorpe. After completing his graduation, Shashank Ketkar worked as a duty manager at Ian’s swimming school for some time. Gradually, he attained certification in swimming and became a qualified swimmer. He then began training many well-known personalities in Australia. He said in the same discussion that he felt superior while working in a senior position at Thrope’s swimming school in Sydney. Shashank Ketkar marked his acting debut in 2012 with the Marathi television serial Rang Maza Vegla.
In 2012, Shashank Ketkar appeared in the Marathi television serial Kalay Tasmay Namah, which was telecasted on ETV Marathi. In this serial, he played the role of Kailash (the grandson of Vikram Gokhale). In 2013, Shashank Ketkar rose to prominence when he began working in the Zee Marathi television serial Honar Sun Me Hya Gharchi in a lead role as Shreerang ‘Shree’ Gokhale. His performance in the show earned him huge fame. Shashank Ketkar, along with his co-star Janhavi, who played his wife in the show, was honoured with the “Best Actor” and “Best Couple” awards in the same year. Reportedly, the show earned a total of eleven awards for its picturisation and story during the same year.
In 2017, Shashank Ketkar played a negative character in the Marathi show Swapnanchya Palikadale, which was aired on Star Pravah. In the show, he played the role of Aniket Gaydhani.

Shashank Ketkar made his film debut with the Marathi film One Way Ticket in 2016.
He then appeared in the film 31 Divas in 2018. During his stay in Australia, Shashank Ketkar participated in several cultural activities, Marathi plays, and musical programs organised by some Indian groups. When he returned to India after completing his higher education in Australia, he started participating in the performing arts regularly as a hobby. Later, Shashank Ketkar joined Sudarshan Rangamanch, a theatre group in Pune and began participating in theatre plays as an artist. He earned immense popularity for his performance in the theatre play Purnaviram, which was his first play and was directed by Pramod Kale and written by Sachin Kundalkar. In 2014, Shashank Ketkar appeared in the theatre play Goshta Tashi Gamtichi as the son of Mangesh Kadam and Leena Bhagwat. In the following year, he earned the Best Supporting Actor (Commercial Plays) at the 2015 Akhil Bhartiya Natya Parishad Awards for his performance in the theatre play Goshta Tashi Gamtichi.
Later, Shashank Ketkar worked in the theatre plays Purnaviram and Kusum Manohar Lele.
