Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani meets with Putin at the Asia Summit in Astana and thanks him for Russia’s support in organizing the World Cup in winter.
Dhe forthcoming football World Cup in Qatar should also be a success thanks to Russian aid. Qatar’s state-run news agency QNA quoted Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Russia as saying, “Qatar is giving great support to the World Cup Organizing Committee. Coordination will continue, for which we thank Russia.” Qatar is proud of the relationship.
The Emir spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday at the summit of the organization called “Conference on Cooperation and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia” in the Kazakh capital Astana. Russia, host of the 2018 World Cup, is largely excluded from international sport, including by the International Football Association FIFA, because of the war of aggression against Ukraine.
The Qatari ruler thanked for the opportunity to speak to the Russian warlord. “I am very happy to see you, Mr. President,” the emir said loudly to Putin, reports the Associated Press. As in Russia four years ago, foreign fans must carry a digital ID card to attend World Cup games.
