In principle, she stated that the SPD is prepared to work with parties “for whom our democracy, freedom and security are non-negotiable”. With regard to the BSW, it is still completely unclear what the party stands for in terms of content. “The only concrete evidence so far is the blatant trivialization of the Russian president and the war of aggression against Ukraine that he ordered,” criticized Esken. “And that is a clear no-go for cooperation at the federal level.”
State elections are taking place in Thuringia and Saxony on September 1st, and in Brandenburg three weeks later. Because the AfD was recently the strongest force in all three states, forming a government is expected to be difficult.
The BSW achieved double-digit results in all three countries in the European elections. If the party, which was only founded in January, can repeat this in the autumn, it could become a force to be reckoned with.
