It helps to know that south of Turin there is a stubborn conviction that when in doubt, the referees will side with the Italian record champions, i.e. Juventus Turin. In this respect, too, a new era may have dawned on Sunday. The stoppage time in the top game between Juventus Turin and SSC Napoli looked like the trailer for this new era.
In the 91st minute, when the score was 0-0, Juventus striker Dušan Vlahović pushed the ball over the line of the Napoli goal. However, the referee disallowed the goal because the ball had previously crossed the baseline. Two minutes later, Juan Cuadrado fell in the penalty area, but here too the referee decided in favor of SSC Napoli and not a penalty. In turn, the ball somehow made its way to Napoli midfielder Eljif Elmas, who threw in a cross. Giacomino Raspadori, one of the unfulfilled heirs to Italy’s great strikers, took the ball straight and shot it between goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny’s legs and into the net.
