From the end of June 2025, smartphones and tablets will be the first product group to have a repair index on the EU energy label.
On June 20, new ecodesign guidelines from the European Union for smartphones and other cordless telephones come into force. For example, the telephones should meet a minimum level of resistance, the batteries should still reach a residual capacity of 80 percent after at least 800 charging cycles and the manufacturers still have to provide spare parts seven years after the sales stop.
New cell phone label comes
The aim is to narrow down the environmental impact of the devices, but also to protect customers' wallets. In order for consumers to get a better overview of the longevity and the properties of the devices, an EU energy label is also introduced, as household appliances already have.
