Prime Day takes place every year in July – this year, shipping giant Amazon is launching its promotional days on July 16 and 17, 2024.
Black Friday is also a fixed date in the calendar for shopping fans: It always takes place on the second to last Friday in November.
Both days are known for their discounts and anyone who wants to save money while shopping can actually wait for the events. Which shopping promotion is more worthwhile for whom depends entirely on the person.
Prime Day vs. Black Friday: What’s the difference between them
Basically, Prime Day is only available to Amazon Prime customers, while Black Friday is celebrated by all online shops and in many places also offline in stores. So if you want to hold a product in your hand before you buy it, Black Friday in brick-and-mortar stores is the better choice.
While Prime Day is limited to Amazon's offerings, Black Friday can be enjoyed across all product categories. So if you're after a specific jacket from an outdoor shop, you might not be able to get it on Amazon, but you can hope that the shop will offer a discount on Black Friday.
But if you want to buy electronics, household, toys or garden products cheaper, you can already get lucky on Prime Day.
It's worth checking the price history of products on sites like camelcamelcamel or Geizhals to spot real bargains. And Amazon's own products like the Echo Dot or the Kindle reader are usually cheaper to buy on Prime Day.
On which day do you save more?
It's worth going bargain hunting on both Prime Day and Black Friday. In fact, Prime Day actually has the better deals on average, and you can look forward to discounts of up to 27 percent on this day. There are particularly big discounts in the gaming sector.
On Black Friday, there will be average price savings of around 18.5 percent.
