The Commissioners of Justice of the Paris Court of Appeal are turning to the blockchain in order to secure and authenticate their documents. They have just announced a partnership with Unikbase, which will allow them to create NFTs on a dedicated blockchain. What is it going to look like?
Blockchain and NFTs as tools for the Paris Court of Appeal
The Regional Chamber of Commissioners of Justice of the Court of Appeal of Paris brings together the judicial officers as well as the judicial auctioneers of the Paris region. Its dedicated blockchain, Legide, was created in order to improve the handling of proofs, and provide tamper-proof records.
Legide is built on Hyperledger Fabrics; it is a “permissioned” blockchain, i.e. its users must be identified and authorized. It is this blockchain that will therefore be used for the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) used by the Commissioners of Justice.
Physical objects (documents or other) are marked with an invisible ink, which refers to an equivalent marking on NFTs. This makes it possible to create “digital twins” of documents or objects, and thus to certify their authenticity. Their history is also available, with each transfer step.

The progressive digitization of documents of this type
This technology has one goal: to provide a “legal evidence with probative value», which is issued by a Legide bailiff contract. The deposits are immutable, and non-repudiable, two essential characteristics so that they can be authentic.
According to Denis Calippe, President of the Chamber of Justice Commissioners of the Paris Court of Appeal, this first initiative is only the beginning of a transformation of the profession :
“This innovative solution common to the Commissioners of Justice of the Court of Appeal of Paris (Bailiffs and judicial auctioneers) allows us to work together to secure new markets and new Web3 applications. It also allows us to consider new practices in our businesses, opening up many prospects for securing data transmissions.»
It is a use of the blockchain which tends to spread – and to show the interest of non-fungible tokens as proof of deposits. The Web3 will therefore also be democratized by this type of avenue.
