DThe Düsseldorf police are already preparing for the arrival of British Prince Harry on September 6th. The visit will be “accompanied by the police,” said a spokeswoman, without giving any further details. In addition to safety aspects, Harry’s visit is said to be about traffic measures such as roadblocks. The prince and his wife Meghan are coming to Düsseldorf to promote the 2023 Invictus Games.
The “Invictus Games” – founded by Prince Harry – are Paralympic competitions for war veterans. They are scheduled to take place in Germany for the first time in September 2023.
According to the current program, Harry and Meghan will arrive in Düsseldorf in the early afternoon. First, there will be a reception at City Hall, where Harry will give a speech and sign the town’s Golden Book. After that there will be a boat trip across the Rhine to the Düsseldorf stadium. There’s a press conference scheduled for Harry, where he’s supposed to give a speech – but won’t answer any questions. Brigadier General Alfred Marstaller, the project manager of the “Invictus Games”, should take over this task.
Harry comes as a private person
Harry and Meghan will probably leave on the same day. They have follow-up appointments in the UK in the days after.
According to police circles, the police will not be on the road to the same extent as during the visit of Harry’s brother Prince William in August 2016. At that time it was a state visit to mark the 70th anniversary of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the then Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU ) was a guest. Harry, on the other hand, comes as a private person – because of the “Invictus Games” he initiated. They are scheduled to take place in Düsseldorf in 2023.
The issue of personal protection for Harry and his family plays a major role in Great Britain. Since the prince renounced his royal duties and moved to the United States, he only gets police protection when visiting Great Britain for official appointments – but not in everyday life. That’s why there’s a lawsuit.
