Monetization arrives on Twitter, with the possibility of offering exclusive content to its subscribers in exchange for a monthly subscription. However, this form of monetization remains very Web2 oriented: let’s take a closer look.
Monetization is coming to Twitter
Thanks to Twitter’s new monetization feature, content creators now have a new form of income.
Indeed, this novelty now allows to offer modular subscription formulas, giving access to exclusive content. Additionally, subscribers who have paid for the subscription will have an additional badge to be recognizable when interacting with the account they subscribed to.
Regarding fees, Twitter retains 3% until the $50,000 milestone is reached. Afterwards, these amount to 20%. Add to that other costs that do not depend on Twitter that can add up, such as Apple’s 30% with its in-app purchases solution, not to mention any taxes that the creator may have to pay in his country. of residence.
Therefore, if this solution can offer new opportunities to diversify its income, it remains very Web2 oriented in its philosophyunlike other ecosystems such as Lens Protocol developed by Aave teams for example.

How to take advantage of this novelty?
Eventually, it will be possible to configure the monetization of your account from 500 subscribersprovided you are at least 18 years old and have been active for the last 30 days.
At the moment, the service is still in beta version, and the minimum number of subscribers is thus increased to 10,000. You must have published at least 25 tweets over the last 30 days and the account must have been active for at least 3 months. In addition, this monetization will not be accessible to state-affiliated accounts.
The type of exclusive content will be defined by the user himself according to the value he wishes to bring to his community, and Twitter provides its own list to select the price of the monthly subscription.
It is important to note that it is the subscriber who pays Twitter and the social network will in turn pay the share that is due to the creator. Payments can be claimed from 50 dollars.
As for cryptocurrencies, we can also note that these are not currently mentioned in the various payment options.
Although this type of monetization is far from the Web3 spirit as we have seenits potential success could still help the company to raise the bar, after the difficulties of recent years.
