A driver was driving her car in the wrong direction, said the Zwickau police department. She then collided head-on with another car.
BTwo people died in a wrong-way driver accident on Autobahn 4 near Meerane (Zwickau district) on Wednesday.
According to the police, an 82-year-old drove in the wrong direction on the lane towards Dresden in the morning.
Her car then collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. Both the elderly woman and the driver of the other car died in the accident near the Saxony-Thuringia border. A police spokeswoman spoke of a devastating picture at the scene of the accident. Further investigations into the exact course of events are ongoing.
The motorway was closed because of the accident and traffic was diverted to the Schmölln junction, according to the police.
