France and Ukraine have agreed on close cooperation between their parliamentarians. In this way, Ukraine’s path to EU membership should be pavedaccording to an agreement signed by the Chair of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, and her counterpart Ruslan Stefanchuk in Kyiv on Thursday.
“It is important to me that our support is permanent,” said Braun-Pivet, who also visited the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv the day before. France will help with the reconstruction, she stressed. The agreement provides for mutual official visits by MPs. Close cooperation between individual committees is also planned, particularly on defense and Europe.
A debate on the situation in Ukraine and French support for the country is scheduled for Monday in the French National Assembly. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Tuesday. She described the so-called referendums in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories on annexation to Russia as a “masquerade”.
