Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has warned the West not to underestimate Russia’s willingness to use its nuclear weapons in an emergency. The nuclear power can use these weapons if their existence is threatened by an attack, Medvedev said on Tuesday in an armaments factory that manufactures missiles. “The answer to such actions is the use of nuclear weapons,” the deputy chief of the Russian Security Council said while connecting to a Moscow forum for youth and schoolchildren.
“Our potential opponents shouldn’t underestimate that,” Medvedev emphasized, referring to views in the West, for example, that Russia is only threatening, bluffing and not seriously prepared to use nuclear weapons in the confrontation with NATO and the West over Ukraine. “Western analysts and the western command structures, the military and the political leadership should simply evaluate our rules and our intentions.” The politician depicted the destructive power of atomic bombs to his audience.
The ex-Kremlin chief repeatedly made nuclear threats during the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. He once again showed himself confident that Russia would win the war and smash Ukraine. The armaments industry is running at full speed and is producing enough tanks, artillery shells and rockets. Medvedev once again claimed that Poland, Hungary and Romania wanted to annex areas of neighboring Ukraine. There is no evidence for this.
The 57-year-old also said that Russia sees itself in an undeclared war with the West. The nuclear weapons are not only protection, they are also security against a fragmentation of Russia into individual states intended by the USA. Medvedev also sees the planet on the brink of a Third World War. “I can’t say what the last drop will be, what will trigger it. But at a certain moment it can happen,” he said.
