At the end of the so-called referendums in Ukraine, the USA made it clear that they would never recognize the areas’ annexation to Russia. “We and many other countries have already made it absolutely clear,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters on Tuesday. “We will not – never – recognize the annexation of Ukrainian territory by Russia.”
Blinken repeated a threat from US President Joe Biden that the US wants to impose “additional fast and high costs” on Russia because of the so-called referendums. “It’s important to remember what’s going on here. Russia has invaded Ukraine, occupying territory and carrying out a diabolical plan in parts of the occupied territories where the local population has been displaced.”
Some Ukrainians were deported, others would “quite simply disappear,” said Blinken. “Then they bus in Russians, set up puppet governments and hold a referendum and manipulate the outcome, then claim the territory belongs to Russia.”
