Uttarakhand is the state of India which is well known for its tourist attractions as well as for religious places. There are two regions in this state Gharwal and Kumaon. Both of these regions are fully enriched by nature. One of the world-famous tourist attractions in Gharwal is the Valley of Flowers. It is a landscape full of several species of flowers that spellbound the visitor by its amazing view. This valley is like the jewel of the crown of Uttarakhand. It is located at the Chamoli district of the Uttarakhand. The valley is perched at a height of 3,658 meters from the sea level. In terms of length it is 8km long and 2 km wide. The Govind Ghat is the base point to start the trek.
The whole valley looks like a carpet from the high point and also gives the feeling that a surprising rainbow on the ground. It is the local’s belief that at this was the place where Lord Hanuman found the Sanjeevni to cure the Lord Lakshaman where they got hurt by the arrow of evil prince Meghnath during the War.
This charming valley is a point of attraction among inbound as well as outbound tourists. This valley is important for the students of botany also because of numerous species of plants and flowers. It is just like a research facility for them. This valley was the accidental discovery by British citizen Frank S Smith. During 1931, He with other two teammates Eric Shipton and R.L Holdsworth returning from the successful hiking of Mt. Kamet then they lost their way and accidentally reached into this valley. As they saw this wonderful valley with different kinds of flowers they named it the Valley of Flowers.

It is declared as a national park in 1982 and later named as Nanda Devi Biosphere reserve in 1988. This valley is under the core area zone. The valley area is administered by the Forest Department of Uttarakhand.
How to Reach
The Chamoli district is one of the major districts of the Garhwal region which is well connected by the other districts of Uttarakhand. It is surrounded by green forest valleys and Himalayan peaks. The nearest major city to Govind ghat in Haridwar. There are various modes of transportation available from there like private/government buses, private tourist taxis, taxis on sharing basis, tempo travelers.
By Road- Haridwar is strongly connected with all major cities. One can easily reach Haridwar. After reaching early in the morning various government and private buses are available for Govind Ghat. It will take 11-12 hrs to reach.
By Air- The Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun is 20 km away from Haridwar. This airport is well connected with major airports via Delhi. So from there hire a private tourist cab for Govind Ghat or can take public transport.
By Train: Haridwar is the major railway station of Uttarakhand state. It is well connected with major stations. As you reach the Haridwar you can hire a private taxi or board on the bus according to availability.

Best Time to Visit
It opens for the visitors in the first week of the month of June and closes in the last week of the month of October. In winters due to extreme cold, heavy snowfall valley remains closed. It is the national park area so timings are fixed. Staying or camping is not allowed by the forest department according to the forest rules.
