A new donation from the co-founder of Ethereum? Accompanied by Sandeep Nailwal, director of the Relief Fund and co-founder of Polygon, Vitalik Buterin contributes to a donation of 100 million dollars aimed at improving research on Covid-19. This gift is part of a long line of grants that he makes to support humanitarian causes.
Ethereum co-founder commits to scientific research
Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain, recently announced its participation in a donation of 100 million dollars. The money raised will be used to fund research against Covid-19, as well as to develop medical infrastructure in India.
The man behind the first infrastructure blockchain participates to the tune of 10 million dollars : the remaining 90 million comes from the Indian Relief Fund currently managed by Sandeep Nailwal, the co-founder of the scalability solution Polygon:
last year @CryptoRelief_ led by @sandeepnailwal allocated $100m to Covid research projects I wanted to fund
Sandeep and I discussed and jointly concluded these and other projects are high-impact and need follow through grants. Hence we decided to put $100m more to these projects

βSandeep and I have jointly discussed and concluded that these and other projects have high impact and require follow-on grants. We therefore decided to invest an additional $100 million in these projects.
What are the main lines of research of these projects? According to the thread written by Vitalik Buterin on Twitter, a point of honor is made on improving indoor air quality.
More than funding to reduce the transmission of Covid-19, this research will benefit all airborne diseases. However, the researchers will attach paramount importance to people infected with Covid-19 and whose symptoms extend over several months.
Also according to the co-founder of Ethereum, the pandemic triggered in 2020 would only be the tip of the iceberg. According to him, we are far from having finished with airborne viruses: the risks of another pandemic during the 21st century would remain very high.

Vitalik Buterin – Web3’s Biggest Donor?
If some billionaires seem not always to be appreciated by the general public, the co-founder of Ethereum represents the very antithesis of this stereotype. From the top of his 29 years, he does not hesitate to use his fortune to subsidize causes that are close to his heart.
Thus, from April 2021, he made a donation of 100 Ether (ETH) and 100 Maker (MKR) to support India in its fight against Covid-19. The following month, he repeated the operation coming off $1.5 billion as meme coins : approximately 75% of the assets had been distributed to the Relief Fund.
Likewise, the successful entrepreneur quickly took a stand when the conflict between Russia and Ukraine erupted. He radically opposed this war by denouncing the Russian invasion and made a donation of 5 million dollars in favor of the Ukrainian army.
More than offerings of financial value, Vitalik Buterin has offered the Web3 community an entire technological ecosystem giving the possibility, to each Internet user, to protect their personal data through disintermediation of web services.
