With the Amazon series The Rings of Power just wrapping up its run, is Warner Bros trying to indirectly capitalize on the new wave of interest in The Lord of the Rings? The studio is offering non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of the eponymous films today, and announces a “movieverse” project.
Lord of the Rings NFTs
The NFTs in question will be limited editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy by Peter Jackson. The first drop will concern the Fellowship of the Ring. The purchase of an NFT will allow viewing of the long version in 4K, as well as 8 hours of exclusive content. It will also come with hundreds of augmented reality images and collectables. Buyers will also be able to virtually explore locations from the film via menus.
Warner Bros. Vice President Jessica Schell explains that it’s about creating ways to connect fans to this film, which she feels is ” timeless » :
“We’re always looking for ways to delight and surprise our fans and movie collectors, and that’s especially the case with The Lord of the Rings. This allows fans to have a completely new experience of these films. »
The drop is based on the blockchain company Eluvio, which specializes in media. The drops will be offered in an “epic” edition of 999 copies, or “mystery” of 10,000 copies.

One movieverse to rule them all
With this initiative, Warner Bros announces the beginning of its “movieverse”. He is described as ” an entirely new way to own, collect and enjoy your favorite movies”. This is a marketplace entirely dedicated to the worlds of Warner Bros films. It is not yet known what other feature films will be represented.
Warner Bros had already tested the waters a year ago, launching NFTs to accompany the release of the movie The Matrix Resurrections. It seems to have been a success since the studio chooses to create an entire marketplace around non-fungible tokens.
As a reminder, Warner Bros. holds particularly popular franchises, such as the Harry Potter film series, the DC comics universe, the Batman series or the Ocean’s series. His arrival in the sector could therefore make waves.
