Cryptocurrency giant Grayscale has published a summary of the year 2024 in the cryptocurrency sector. He discusses the best cryptocurrencies to follow for the first quarter of 2025. What are they?
The top 20 cryptocurrencies to follow for the 1st quarter of 2025
As an asset manager and ETF manager, Grayscale evaluates the stocks that make up its indices. Each quarter, a top 20 is established to determine which are the best cryptocurrencies of the momentt. For the start of the year, Grayscale notes that it has given pride of place to 6 new arrivals.
According to the asset manager, it is currently appropriate to look at cryptocurrencies linked to 3 main themes. The American elections on the one hand, with the arrival of a “pro-crypto” president in power. Then, decentralized artificial intelligence, in particular AI agents which are in the news at the moment. And finally, the explosive growth of the Solana (SOL) ecosystem in recent months.

It results a new top 20 of the best cryptocurrencies of the moment :
The most interesting assets of the moment, according to Grayscale
Unsurprisingly, Bitcoin (BTC) is first on the list, followed by Ether (ETH). In 3rd position, we have Solana (SOL), whose explosion Grayscale points to in recent years. Beyond these, the smart contract platforms favored by Grayscale are Sui and Optimism (OP).

The new narratives of 2025
The new arrivals are also notable. The explosion of Hyperliquid (HYPE)which offered staking services this week, is reflected in its 7th place in the ranking. Grayscale also notes the arrival of Jito (JTPO) and Jupiter (JUP), both linked to Solana. The attraction for artificial intelligence is also seen with 2 more confidential protocols: Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL) as well as Grass (GRASS).
It is interesting to note that very few stablecoins find favor in the eyes of Grayscale. Tether (USDT) and Circle (USDC) are therefore absent from this list… But not Ethena (ENA), who is vying for 10th place in this ranking.

Another element to highlight: Grayscale lists the protocols that have fallen out of its ranking :
“This quarter, we moved the following protocols out of the top 20: TON, Near, Stacks, Maker (Sky), UMA Protocol and Celo.»
The asset manager also points the finger the other themes that will make 2025. He cites in particular Ethereum scalability solutions – in other words layer 2 – tokenization and decentralized physical infrastructures (DePIN). To be continued in the next rankings.
