In the ecosystem, shady cryptocurrencies follow and resemble each other. But sometimes a celebrity finds himself mixed up in the affair. This is the case of footballer Ronaldinho, who today promotes the “World Cup Inu”. What is this project?
Ronaldinho supports the “World Cup Inu” cryptocurrency
The footballer published his tweet in the evening yesterday. Ronaldinho explains qhe is now part of the “World Cup Inu Family” :
I am delighted to be part of the World Cup Inu family. $WCI is changing the challenge space by their work and utilities. Really excited for this project! I will be giving away 3 jerseys to them, vouching for Brazil to win the #WorldCup. Make sure you check them out 🤙 pic.twitter.com/rvF9mNCqFs

We don’t learn much about the project, Ronaldinho simply saying that the World Cup Inu ” is changing DeFi through his work and usefulness”.
If we take a walk on the official site of the project, we see that it is an online betting portal which will focus on the 2022 Football World Cup. The site explains with a lot of exclamation marks that users can ” participate and bet with each other ». A lottery is also offered.

A shady cryptocurrency
As several commentators have pointed out, this project came out of nowhere may raise questions. User FatManTerra pointed out that the WCI cryptocurrency had a function that allowed trading to be paused:

This while the official website nevertheless explains that the project is decentralized :
“WCI BETS is fully decentralized which means no one can change the information once a bet is placed. »
Other users point the finger at Ronaldinho has been broke since the end of his football careerand that this type of “partnership” must have provided him with much needed funding:
Temporarily back from my holiday to say nice #ad. Potentially first football player to get charged for promoting blatant crypto pump and dumps?
Hope you enjoy bankruptcy and hurting your fans. pic.twitter.com/JT8dROCXRG

Ronaldinho is of course liable to prosecution for having promoted a project most certainly against payment. Recently, Kim Kardashian was fined $1.26 million for illegally promoting Ethereum Max (EMAX).
Shady crypto projects and influencers still often go hand in hand. But we note more and more lawsuits in this area. As in France, where the advertisements of crypto influencers are now in the crosshairs of the AMF. This shows that the trend could run out of steam.
