The district court of Berlin sentenced the former health senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD) to a suspended sentence of one and a half years for bruising. The court considers that the then senator commissioned an entrepreneur to organize her wedding celebration in spring 2019. Both agreed that Kalayci would not be invoiced in the amount of around 11,240 euros. Instead, they agreed that the agency should receive a lucrative order from the Senate Department. That's how it came.
According to the court, Kalayci's authority commissioned the company with a campaign that was supposed to promote nursing professions and paid 267,830 euros. The owner of the agency is said to have made a profit of around 9,450 euros for himself and a good 7,420 euros for his company. The unintelligent was sentenced to a punishment of one year and three months for bribery. In addition, the court ordered the collection of 6,242 euros in Kalayci and 9,450 euros for the co -accused.
For Kalayci, the public prosecutor had called for a suspended sentence of one and a half years and a fine of 36,000 euros (180 daily rates each each). For the entrepreneur, she had asked for a punishment of one year and three months on probation and a fine of 7,500 euros (150 daily rates each 50 euros).
Kalayci itself always assured her innocence. “I emphasize again, I have never had and would never have been bribed,” she said when the last word was granted to her in the process. Until the search of her apartment on April 6, 2022, she assumed that the services for the wedding had long since been billed and paid. Kalayci's man was responsible for organizing the wedding, both spouses said. He simply forgot to pay for an outstanding invoice from the agency. At that time, the then senator was very busy, which was strengthened by the Corona pandemic at the end of January 2022.
Kalayci was a senator from 2011 to 2016 and then a health senator in Berlin until 2021. As early as 2020, she announced that she was not going back to the election.
The judgment of Friday is not yet final.
