Criminal activities
Harkamal Ranu was arrested by the Bathinda police on 10 June 2022 in connection with the Punjabi singer-politician Sidhu Moose Wala’s murder case. On 29 May 2022, Sidhu Moose Wala was assassinated by eight sharpshooters in Punjab’s Mansa district. He was driving to a relative’s house in a Mahindra Thar SUV when he was stopped by two other vehicles. The attackers dismounted and opened fire on him. He was hit about 30 times. Sidhu Moose Wala was transported to Mansa Civil Hospital, where physicians confirmed him dead. Soon after the incident, Satinder Singh aka Goldy Brar, a Canadian mobster of Punjabi ancestry, claimed responsibility for the murder. Several states’ police departments have been working to uncover the conspiracy. Ranu is suspected to be one of the eight sharpshooters involved in the assassination of the Panjabi singer. His grandfather handed him over to the police in regards to his connection in the murder case. Talking about him, he said,
Before handing him over to the police, I spoke with Harkamal, but he has denied any wrongdoing and involvement in the crime.”
A SIT member told the media about the arrest. He said,
So far, the SIT has identified four shooters, but it is not yet ascertained how many of them were there, as no one who can confirm the count has been arrested so far. It could be 8-10.”
Meanwhile, a Red Corner Notice (RCN) has been issued for Satinderjeet Singh aka Goldy Brar, a Canadian-based criminal wanted in the death of Moosewala. Many vital clues have been discovered in the investigation of Moosewala’s murder, according to the Punjab Police. The murderers’ identities have been discovered. Information regarding what routes did the killers take and how did they get away has also been identified. The information has been received in its entirety. Manpreet Manu and Jagroop Singh Roopa of Tarn Taran, Harkamal alias Ranu of Bathinda, Priyavrata Fauji and Manjit Bholu of Sonepat, Saurav Mahakal and Santosh Jadhav of Pune, Maharashtra, and Subhash Banoda of Sikar, Rajasthan have all been identified as shooters. All of these shooters have been photographed. The Punjab Police suspect that the same shooters assassinated Sidhu Moose Wala in Mansa. Three days prior, all of these shooters had assembled on the Kotkapura highway. According to police, all of the shooters are members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In order to find these shooters, Punjab Police has called the police of the respective states and asked for their assistance. Punjab Police is conducting gangster-hunting raids in Haryana-Punjab, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
Ranu is facing 11 criminal charges and has previously evaded police custody. After being released from prison after five years, he was detained again in January in an Arms Act charge and released on bail in April 2022.
