NAfter a chase of around 70 kilometers across several motorways in Hesse, a driver was arrested on the A3 near Limburg. The 40-year-old driver had previously crashed the car into a crash barrier, the police said in the evening. Two police officers were slightly injured in the operation on Saturday morning.
A witness noticed the man because he was driving an unmarked car on the A5 near Zwingenberg in the direction of Darmstadt. He also cut and harassed other cars. The witness informed the police. A police patrol finally gave the driver a stop signal, which he ignored, it was said.
Police helicopter deployed
The officers drove after him, but the fugitive could not be stopped. Shortly thereafter, another patrol followed, additional forces were also ordered and a police helicopter notified. According to the information, the pursuit continued with several risky driving maneuvers and traffic violations on the A67 and on the A3 towards Cologne.
In a traffic jam at a construction site, the man drove onto the hard shoulder and continued his escape from there. Shortly after the Limburg exit, the car finally skidded and crashed into the left-hand crash barrier. However, the man drove on – now at a low speed – until he was stopped by two patrol cars. He was arrested and given medical attention. The driver now has to answer for various criminal offenses.
