Today, video game publisher Ubisoft announced a new partnership with the Cronos ecosystem. The French company officially becomes validator on the Cronos blockchain, natively created on the Cosmos SDK by Crypto.com and Crypto.org.

For Cronos, the arrival of such a behemoth is a guarantee of quality allowing it to increase its influence and its number of users for the next few years. For its part, Ubisoft benefits from access to the governance of the Cronos network to participate in the evolution of its ecosystem over the long term.
However, this collaboration does not stop there: a point of honor is made the development of use cases related to the video game sector. For Ken Timsit, CEO of Cronos Labs, Ubisoft is the ideal partner for developing decentralized applications focused on video games:

This alliance follows a previous collaboration between the two entities in 2022, where Ubisoft participated in the “Cronos Accelerator Program” as a start-up mentor.
During this event, his objective was to follow the latest Web3 innovationswhile showing the way forward to different entrepreneurs, in order to facilitate the creation of future use cases in the field of blockchains.

Gaming and Web3: a revolution underway
If one of the largest video game publishers in the world is interested in blockchain technologies, it is for a very specific reason: Web3 reaches an increasingly large audience. Moreover, the first companies to take initiatives in the years to come will be the winners of this technological race.
In this context, Ubisoft is far from being the only firm to be interested in this universe. In June 2023, the Epic Games Store, one of the world’s leading video game distribution platforms, added the Web3 game Gods Unchained to their store.
As a reminder, Gods Unchained is a card game with a unique functioning. Using non-fungible token (NFT) technology, this game has developed a marketplace for its players where they can buy and sell their in-game items. In this way, they become the sole owners of their virtual objects.
Other Web3 behemoths use NFT technology to give more power to their players. We can cite:
- the french unicorn Sorare and its fantasy football game;
- the metaverse The Sandboxhaving collaborated with HSBC, Gucci, Atari and Ubisoft;
- or the company Yuga Labs (BAYC) with its metaverse project called Otherside.
Traditional gaming companies therefore need to get more involved in the world of blockchains to avoid having their market share eroded by emerging players in this innovative sector, combining new technologies and video games.
