BTwo people died in a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey apartment building in Flensburg on Thursday. The dead were a man and a child, as the fire brigade operations manager told the German Press Agency. Nine other people were injured by the fire.
When the emergency services arrived, there were other people in the building, said the operations manager. Firefighters cordoned off the area of the fire in the evening. Pictures showed smoke pouring out of the attic windows of a building. Firefighters battled the blaze from multiple ladders.
Because of the fire, the regional control center north asked residents in the Neustadt/Klues area to close doors and windows. In addition, ventilation and air conditioning should be switched off.
Now the top floor of the building is in danger of collapsing. The city of Flensburg announced that attempts were therefore being made to secure the top floor. The police have cordoned off a large area of the site and are asked to stay away from the site, the city said.
