Founders received 250,000 euros – start-up from “Lion’s Den” files for bankruptcy

According to a report in the “Hamburger Abendblatt”, the Hamburg start-up Sleeperoo filed for bankruptcy on February 15th. A few days ago, attorney Finn Peters was appointed as insolvency administrator.

The start-up should look familiar to many German TV viewers. Around five years ago, the business idea, a kind of mobile sleeping cube with a pillow, blanket and mattress, was presented to investors on the show “The Lion’s Den”. The lioness Dagmar Wöhrl was immediately enthusiastic and invested a sum of 250,000 euros in the start-up.

Although Wöhrl and Sleeperoo went their separate ways after about a year, the founder Karen Löhnert continued to work successfully with other investors. Apparently, however, this did not result in the long-term success that had been hoped for.

As Löhnert explained to the Abendblatt, “a short-term investment gap” meant that the step into insolvency could no longer be averted. A new investor is to be found in the next few weeks “to secure bookings, locations and team”. Sleeperoo currently employs 17 people.
