EA few days before the referendum on the deselection of Frankfurt Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD), he tested positive for Corona. His spokesman told the German Press Agency on Tuesday that he had gone into quarantine. Feldmann did a PCR test on Monday.
A trial is currently underway at the Frankfurt district court against the SPD politician, who is suspected of corruption. It is about his close ties to Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Awo).
On Monday, the mayor did not appear for the hearing for health reasons. His lawyers submitted a certificate to the court stating that he was not fit to stand trial because of a “mental state of emergency”. The next day of negotiations is scheduled for November 9th.
In the Frankfurt Römer almost all parties have been calling for Feldmann’s resignation since the summer, including his own party. The mayor had not accepted a voting procedure initiated by the city councillors. In order for the deselection to be successful, a majority is required in the referendum this Sunday – at least 30 percent of all eligible voters must also vote against Feldmann. An appearance in the Römer should not be possible that evening because of the corona infection.
