What do you do when you have to take care of the children at home because your wife is at a congress, but you also have to report on the state delegates’ conference of the Bavarian Greens in Landshut? One could use the excuse that this party conference promises not to be too interesting anyway – nomination of the top duo Katharina Schulze/Ludwig Hartmann for the state elections in 2023, along with a lot of self-praise and self-assurance – and therefore stay at home with the children, maybe one or more another time listening to the live stream on the playground.
On the other hand: In the hall in Landshut there is childcare – and if a party has experience with people who insist on the compatibility of family and work in front of everyone, then yes, the Greens, especially the Bavarians. Just think of Anton Hofreiter, who chaired the meeting of the European Committee in the Bundestag with his little son on his lap in the summer. So let’s go to Landshut – maybe the children can play together with Hartmann and Schulze and find out quite innocently interesting things about the designated top candidates.
There is actually childcare
This time, to accompany the drive, it is not “Aramsamsam” or “The Little Quack-Quak-Duck” that is playing, but the state delegates’ conference, which is already in full swing. Claudia Roth praises, politically not entirely correct, but certainly meant in a funny way, “the mega-strong women and the beautiful men” in her state association and, like almost everyone on this day, makes it clear that there should be no going back to nuclear power. To a lonely critical voice (from Pascal), who had previously spoken out against Green government participation in Bavaria, Roth replies: “Yes, we wanted power and we want it, dear Pascal, but we don’t want power for the sake of power, we want power because we want to change with power.”
Hardly arrived in the hall in the shadow of the cooling tower of Isar II, the children almost run into Hofreiter’s arms – but he has no eye for them, he is standing in line for the vegetarian-vegan food, delivered by an inclusive company, deep in conversation . There is actually childcare on the first floor next to the diversity lounge, but the children don’t feel like it. That’s not a bad thing, however, because neither Schulze’s offspring nor Hartmann’s are in the room. Moreover, it turns out that the whole party congress is one big adventure playground. Important: carpet. If one of the children falls down while you’re having a background conversation with a BR colleague over coffee: no problem. Also essential: objects that you can use to pull yourself up or run around, such as tables or chairs. But the best are stands with small giveaways. At the Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (BBW) there is a yellow smiley softball. Like the whole Landshut trip, it’s a win-win situation: The BBW representative hands out a ball, knowing that he’ll then have a good minute to get his concerns across to the man, which in turn will help him You are allowed to ask for a second ball with a clear conscience – after all, there are two children and they shouldn’t argue.
