Several million euros in debt: The chocolate manufacturer Hauswirth files for bankruptcy. The company is struggling with increased energy and wage costs as well as a drop in sales due to the Corona crisis.
The chocolate and confectionery company Franz Hauswirth Ges.mbH from Kittsee has filed for bankruptcy. According to the creditor protection associations Creditreform and KSV1870, the debt amounts to around 10.5 million euros.
The company currently employs 119 people. The press reports that the company will continue to operate despite the bankruptcy.
Hauswirth is struggling with increased raw material, energy and wage costs as well as a drop in sales due to the corona pandemic. According to “Die Presse”, the continuation of the company will be financed through the existing bank balance and the collection of outstanding claims.
Creditors have until February 3, 2025 to register their claims. The first reporting and audit meeting is scheduled for February 17th.

According to the Burgenland Tourism Association, the Austrian Confiserie Hauswirth exported around 50 percent of its chocolate production abroad, with Germany being one of the most important sales markets.
In addition to seasonal chocolate figures and dragées, their filled confectionery was particularly popular with German customers.
