9-euro ticket now also available as an app
The application is available for free in the Google Play Store and the App Store and is quite simple. If you download it onto your smartphone, you first have to register. An email address and a password are not enough here, the app also wants to know the first and last name and the address. Logical. Finally, the 9-euro ticket is personalized and non-transferrable. That’s why you should also have your identity card with you when you travel. The ticket is checked either electronically or by visual inspection. The ID must be shown upon request.
Once registered, you can go on a shopping spree and buy tickets for June, July or August 2022 or all three months together. As a payment method, choose between SEPA direct debit and credit card, payment via other services such as PayPal does not work.
Practical: It is possible to buy the ticket digitally for other users. Then the personal data can be entered manually or taken from your address book. Of course, the app needs access to the same. It is therefore also possible to buy the ticket for family members traveling with you and save it on your smartphone. However, all travelers should have an identity document with them.
App for the 9-euro ticket: This function is missing
If you bought the 9-euro ticket via the app, other important questions remain to be clarified: Where should the journey actually go now? And how do you get there? The app cannot provide such information. If you want to find a route for your summer vacation or want to take the bus to the city instead of driving, you need the application of the local transport company or the DB Navigator. Too bad actually. With timetables specially adapted to the ticket, Deutsche Bahn could have scored a plus here.
Who doesn’t need the app
By the way, if you already have a monthly ticket, you can confidently give yourself the gift of downloading the app. Deutsche Bahn explains. “All subscriptions valid during the promotional period June 1st to August 31st 2022 will automatically benefit from the price adjustment in June, July and August.” Translated, this means: the monthly ticket becomes a 9-euro ticket and the respective transport association only debits the reduced amount.
