The video platform YouTube has once again published a review of the past few months in its blog. For the first time, the portal provides insights into the “Top Trending Topics” of the year. The range of the biggest topics extends from gaming to politics to major sporting events. This is the 2024 annual review.
The “Top Trending Topics” in Germany
When it comes to politics, the US presidential election with the triumph of Donald Trump (78) particularly shaped the platform. The sport thrilled users with two major events: the European Football Championship in Germany and the Olympic Games in Paris. “The Amazing Digital Circus”, content creator Jo Jonas and the games “Brawl Stars” and “Palworld” also attracted attention. Completing the ranking are “Talahon,” which was nominated for youth word of the year, the blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine” and the series “Hazbin Hotel.”
According to YouTube, the evaluation is based on various metrics, including views. Topic areas were taken into account that stood out in Germany either due to a significant increase in user interest or as a complete innovation. The topic areas were not mentioned in any particular order.
The trendiest videos in Germany
The “Top Trending Videos” in Germany also show a variety of topics. The top position was secured by a football clip: “France – Germany Highlights | International match | sportstudio”. The viral post about “Spiegel’s main advertising champion” came in second, followed by the tomatolix video: “This is what happens when you take the strongest drug in the world! (5-MeO-DMT)”.

The three most popular songs in Germany were “Wunder” by Ayliva (26) and Apache 207 (27), “Disturbed – The Sound of Silence (original + CYRIL remix)” and “I like the way you kiss me” by Artemas ( 25). When it comes to content creators, football icon Cristiano Ronaldo (39) tops the list, followed by the controversial US YouTuber MrBeast and the aforementioned Jo Jonas. The top ten is completed by the channels Stokes Twins, tomatolix, Canselguel, Kaan, LukasBS, Jessie Bluegrey and DieWalsers.
